Our team
Meet your treatment team
South Africa’s only Gamma Knife is housed at Netcare’s Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg. Here our leading multi-disciplinary team, comprising experienced neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists and medical physicists or radiotherapists, treat patients with diseases or abnormalities in and around the brain and related structures using stereotactic radiosurgery.
Our specialised team also works with nursing staff, anaesthesiologists (for paediatric cases) and radiation therapists. Together, they provide patients with exceptional, individualised care and world class treatment.

Adele Poole
Gamma Knife South Africa Unit Manager
Adele Poole
Adele Poole, Gamma Knife South Africa Unit Manager, holds a National Diploma in Radiography: Diagnostic and a Bachelor of Technology in Radiography (Therapy). She has also completed a course in Dosimetry (Specialised Planning). She has over 25 years’ experience.
Speaking about Gamma Knife radiosurgery, Adele says, “The technology of this non-invasive treatment delivers high doses of precision-targeted radiation and greatly reduces the many risks associated with traditional cranial surgery.”

Thendo Alidzulwi
Medical Physicist
Thendo Alidzulwi
Thendo Alidzulwi, Medical Physicist, holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics, two Honours degrees in Physics and Medical Physics, and Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Physics. She has eight years’ experience.
Thendo says, “The positioning accuracy for the Gamma Knife is better than many competing systems. It delivers precise dose delivery with sharp dose falloff away from the target in the brain.”

Elaine Botha
Medical Physicist
Elaine Botha
Elaine Botha, Medical Physicist, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences and an Honours degree in Medical Physics.
With two years’ experience now behind her, she is a young and determined professional. Eliane says, “Gamma Knife radiosurgery is a good treatment option because it is highly specialised and conformal to a brain lesion.”

Menzi Nsibande
Planning Radiotherapist
Menzi Nsibande
Menzi Nsibande, Planning Radiotherapist holds a Bachelor of Technology: Radiotherapy. He has 11 years’ experience in radiotherapy with six of these in stereotactic radiosurgery. Menzi says, “Gamma Knife has some 200 tiny beams of radiation that enable us to deliver high dose to the tumour while making sure that normal structures around receive a minimal radiation dose.”

Francois Dinis
Gamma Knife South Africa Administrator
Francois Dinis
Francois Dinis, Gamma Knife South Africa Administrator, worked as an Administrator in the healthcare environment as soon as he matriculated. Since then, he has clocked up nine years’ experience.
Francois believes that, “Gamma Knife radiosurgery is a good option because it’s effective and no incisions with a scalpel are involved. Hospital admission is seldom required.”
